What the service is — and what a preview means

Thwok runs a club's nights and its shared record of money. Court booking, tournaments and a coaching marketplace are being built and will open later; until a feature is switched on, it is not part of the service.

Thwok is a private preview, open by invitation. That means: we can change or remove features, we can decline or withdraw access, things will occasionally break, and we make no promise that the service — or your access to it — will continue. It is provided as-is and as-available, free of charge, and you should not yet rely on it as your only record of anything important to you.

If you join the waiting list we hold your email to invite you, and for nothing else — the privacy notice has the details.

Your account

• You need to be 13 or over.
• Use your real name where other players see it — a roster only works if it is true.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• You can stop using it whenever you like.

Club money, and payments to come

This is the important part: we are not a bank, not a payment institution, and we do not hold, move or collect anyone's money. The ledger, the statements and the settlements are a shared record of what a club's members owe each other. The money itself moves between you directly — bank transfer, cash, however your club already does it. We keep the record honest; we are not a party to the debt, and we are not responsible for whether anyone actually pays it.

The record is only as good as what members put in it. A club's organisers are responsible for their club's money and for the amounts they enter; if members disagree, that is between them — the itemised ledger is usually the thing that settles it.

A paid tier will later offer card collection, processed by Stripe — we still will not hold funds ourselves. When court booking opens, bookings will be between you and the venue on the venue's terms. In both cases these terms will be updated first, and today neither exists: the free service takes no payment of any kind.

Our fees, and changing them

If you run an academy, club or venue, what Thwok charges — our platform fee — is shown on your Money screen before you take a booking or a payment, so you always know the rate before it applies.

We may change our fees and costs. If we do, we will tell you at least 30 days beforehand, by email and in the app, and the new rate applies only to bookings and payments made after that date.

Where we have agreed a specific rate with your academy, club or venue, that rate is shown on your Money screen and stays in place until the date it says it ends.

Using it fairly

• Do not book courts you have no intention of using.
• Do not enter results you know are wrong — ratings are other people's too.
• Do not use the club money tools to collect money you are not owed.
• Do not scrape, break, or try to reach other people's data.

We can suspend an account that does these things, and we will say why.

Availability

We try to keep it up and we do not promise it always will be. If we are down when you meant to check in, the club can correct the night afterwards — nothing about a session is lost because the app was.

Where our responsibility ends

We run the service with reasonable care, and during the preview it is provided as-is, as-available and free — so to the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all other warranties, and we accept no liability for loss of data, loss of profit, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using it or from it being unavailable.

We are not responsible for what happens on court or at a venue, for a venue's, coach's or organiser's own conduct, for the accuracy of what members enter in a club's ledger, or for whether money owed between members, clubs or venues is actually paid. Playing sport carries its own risks, and they are yours.

Coaches and academies: an academy checks its own coaches' certificates, including DBS, and records who checked and when. Thwok stores the certificate and that record. Thwok does not verify any certificate and makes no representation about any coach's suitability.

If we are liable to you despite all that, our total liability for everything arising in any year is capped at £100 — the service is free, and that is the deal that makes it possible. Nothing on this page limits liability that the law does not let us limit: for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, no cap applies.
